Seoul Botanic Park: Greenhouse Tickets & a Winter Rainy-Day Route
Seoul Botanic Park is a useful cold-weather or rainy-day option if you want plants rather than another shopping mall. The greenhouse is the sheltered main attraction; the journey from the subway and much of the park are outdoors. Plan a greenhouse-centered visit, then decide whether the weather deserves a longer garden walk.
Important from 1 November 2026: winter opening hours are 09:30–17:00, with ticket sales and entry ending at 16:00. Do not plan around the later summer closing time. This guide is desk-researched, not a firsthand visit report; official information was checked on 1 November 2026.
Choose the paid greenhouse or the free park
- For rain, cold or a plant-focused visit: buy admission to the greenhouse and Theme Garden. The greenhouse contains tropical and Mediterranean plant displays representing 12 cities. The Theme Garden portion is outdoors.
- For a free walk in good weather: the Open Forest, Lake Garden and Wetland Garden are free. A free park stroll does not include the greenhouse.
- For Monday or a late afternoon arrival: check the closure and entry rules before making the trip. An open outdoor park does not mean the greenhouse is open.

Winter hours: arrive well before last admission
The operator’s 29 October 2026 winter-hours notice confirms the shorter timetable begins on Sunday, 1 November. November–February hours for the paid greenhouse and Theme Garden are 09:30–17:00; both ticket sales and admission stop at 16:00.
These paid areas close on Mondays. If Monday is a public holiday, they open that day and close on the first following non-holiday weekday. Free outdoor areas remain open year-round. Check the operator’s notices for temporary changes before departure.
For a relaxed visit, aim to reach the greenhouse around 14:00 or earlier. Our suggested 90–120 minutes is a planning allowance, not an official tour duration. Entering at 16:00 leaves only an hour before closing and little flexibility for a queue, toilets or lockers.
Tickets and a simple family budget
Standard admission covers the greenhouse and Theme Garden:
- Adults aged 19–64: ₩5,000.
- Youths aged 13–18: ₩3,000.
- Children aged 6–12: ₩2,000.
- Children under 6 and adults aged 65 or older: free with the required proof of eligibility. Bring a passport or suitable age evidence rather than assuming an exemption will be granted without documentation.
For example, two adults and one child aged 6–12 pay ₩12,000 in standard admission, before transport and food. These are age bands, not school-grade categories. See the official fees and admission rules.
Ordinary individual and group visits do not require an advance reservation. Guided programs have separate applications. Tickets are valid only on the day of purchase; this does not establish unlimited re-entry. Keep your ticket and ask gate staff before leaving for lunch if you want to return.
From Magongnaru Station: the outdoor approach matters
Address for your map: 161 Magokdong-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul (서울 강서구 마곡동로 161).
Take Line 9 or the AREX all-stop service to Magongnaru Station (마곡나루역). The operator directs visitors to exits 3 or 4, which connect to the Open Forest area. Follow signs for 서울식물원 / 온실 / 식물문화센터 (Seoul Botanic Park / greenhouse / Plant Culture Center).
The station exit reaches the park, not a fully enclosed corridor to the greenhouse. Carry an umbrella or rain jacket for the approach. Allow extra time rather than treating “station connected” as “already at the ticket gate.” Our map pin uses the operator’s park reference point, not a surveyed greenhouse doorway.
Two alternatives in the official transport directions are Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station on Line 9, exit 8, with a stated 10-minute walk to the Theme Garden, and Magok Station on Line 5, exit 3, with a stated 20-minute walk to Open Forest. Magok and Magongnaru are different stations. If you are new to transit, our Seoul subway guide explains the basics.
A greenhouse-first route for 90–120 minutes
- Get organized before the paid gate. Check closing time, use the toilet and decide whether you need a locker. Keep your ticket accessible.
- Make the greenhouse the main stop. Follow the visitor path through the tropical and Mediterranean displays. Pause where a plant or landscape interests you instead of trying to turn every label into a checklist. Wear a layer you can remove when moving from the outdoor approach into the greenhouse.
- Choose your outdoor finish. If conditions are comfortable, use the included Theme Garden or continue to the free lake area. In steady rain or strong wind, skip the longer outdoor loop.
- Collect belongings before closing. Return toward your chosen station with time for the outdoor walk. Do not leave a locker collection until after 17:00 in winter.
The sequence is our suggested itinerary, not a timed or guided service. Walking pace, queues, temporary routing and children’s interests can change the visit.

Food, lockers and family practicalities
Eat before entering or use a designated restaurant. Do not bring food into or eat in the greenhouse and Theme Garden. The operator says there is no packed-lunch area in the paid garden/Plant Culture Center; food bought in its restaurants should be eaten inside those restaurants. Packed food may be eaten in the Open Forest or Lake Garden, but that is an outdoor solution, not a dependable rainy-day lunch plan. Restaurant hours and availability should be checked on the day.
Lockers are not an all-evening luggage service. They are listed at the Visitor Center and several Plant Culture Center locations. In November–February they operate 09:30–17:00, with the stated Monday closure, and belongings cannot be stored or retrieved outside operating hours. We have not verified suitcase dimensions, fees or live availability. If you are carrying large luggage, do not build a flight-day plan around an unconfirmed locker.
With children or mobility needs: wheelchair and stroller loans are available through designated desks, subject to availability and identification requirements. The operator’s facilities guidance prioritizes stroller loans for children under 36 months. Official visitor information lists accessible paths, toilets and elevators, but this guide has not independently tested a step-free route from a specific subway exit.
Leave bicycles, scooters and tripods out of the paid garden areas; pets are restricted, with guide-dog exceptions. Stay on visitor paths and do not pick plants. Check the visitor FAQ, locker hours and garden rules for details.
When to choose a different rainy-day stop
Choose Seoul Botanic Park when you want a greenhouse visit and can accept an outdoor approach. If you need a largely indoor shopping-and-food outing, compare our COEX rainy-day guide. If you are already in central Seoul and want a shorter museum stop, the Seoul Museum of History route may avoid a cross-city journey. Check each venue’s own opening day rather than assuming it is open when the botanical garden is closed.
Before you leave: confirm the day’s opening, arrive well before 16:00 in winter, bring rain protection for the approach, and make a lunch and luggage plan. Those choices matter more than trying to cover every part of the park in one visit.
